Last week I read an interesting study that evaluated the impact of greater cardiovascular fitness in midlife is associated with decreased dementia risk in women. The study shows a stunning decrease in the risk of dementia. It was critiqued by some, but after considering the critique it is still a 60% reduction in the risk of dementia.
This is a good example to demonstrate the value of Real World Evidence is to answer important questions. Could it be that exercise should be one potential treatment modality for patients with pre-disposition for dementia / Alzheimer?
Should the cardiovascular fitness be a variable that is considered in future studies about the effect of new Alzheimer drugs?
I believe that high quality Real World Evidence with the right scope of data provides a disruption in how we can analyse many important questions.
Time to go for a run…
