The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health announces new tariff system for out-patient care for 2018

On the 22nd of March the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/OFSP) published the updated version of the TARMED tariff system for out-patient services. TARMED 1.09 will be in use from January the 1st 2018. Tariff partners of the TARMED system, which include Santésuisse, the Military and Invalidity Insurance (MTK/CTM), will be able to question the system and to propose modifications until the 21st of June 2017.

The review of the tariff system by BAG drastically modified the reimbursement system, by increasing and reducing tariffs for many services and adapting the reimbursement system to current practice and cost information. In addition, the 10% mark-up applied to the use of disposables and implants was suppressed.

The TARMED tariff system is normally updated after consultation and common agreement between the federal tariff partners. In November 2016 BAG/OFSP decided to intervene the process of tariff definition due to the lack of agreement between tariff partners throughout previous consultations.
