Observational data – challenges and opportunities and introduction to propensity score adjustment
This seminar will provide out overview of the challenges and limitations, but also the opportunities associated with the analysis of observational data and registry cohorts, particularly with regards to the study of long-term, real-world outcomes and as a means of supplementing the existing evidence base from primary clinical trial evidence.
It will provide an overview of some of the more notable registries and cover examples of how these are currently being used to corroborate and extend observations from clinical trials around the efficacy and safety of medical interventions, focusing on Multiple Sclerosis as an example. The session will also introduce a number of possible strategies for both diagnosing and managing the various biases and shortcomings associated with the analysis of observational cohorts including propensity score adjustment and marginal structural modelling.
