The G-BA has included PET/CT in certain head and neck cancers into the guidelines on methods used in hospital and ambulatory settings
The Institute for Quality and Cost Effectiveness in the Health Care Sector (IQWIG) evaluated that PET/CT is suitable in some cases to avoid invasive neck dissections or laryngoscopic biopsies in patients with progressed head and neck tumors, or unknown primary tumor syndromes in the area.
Following the decision by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) on the 16th of March, the method is now included in the positive list of the guideline on methods within both the hospital and ambulatory treatment setting.
