The European Commission proposes to reinforce cooperation between member states: regulation on HTA in Europe
The European Commission has put forward a proposal to increase cooperation amongst Member States for health technology assessment (HTA). The aim of this potential directive is to enable greater transparency, empower patients, and ensure access to information on the added clinical value of new technology. It is expected that such a regulation would, for national authorities, mean being able to formulate policies for health systems based on more robust evidence. One potential benefit for manufacturers is that they will no longer have to adapt to different national procedures.
The EUnetHTA JA3 Directorate continues to actively support HTA collaboration in Europe through Joint Action 3 and supports the proposed regulation. Now, Member States and the European Parliament will carefully study the proposal and engage constructively in a discussion to decide about the future of the HTA cooperation in Europe.
