BAG announces the creation of a Unified Federal Registry of Cancer
The Swiss Federal Office for Public Health (BAG/OFSP) has announced the upcoming creation of a Unified Federal Registry for Cancers in the country. The new Registry will allow tracking, reporting and analysis of federal data on epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment pathways of oncological diseases collected by the Swiss Federation. Currently, the Swiss National Registry for Cancer gathers data on cancers based on information collected and transmitted by single cantonal registries.
The upcoming Registry will uniform the processes of data collection and analysis and possibly give new and clearer insights on real world practice and evidence for the condition in Switzerland. For each cancer episode, data on type, stage of the disease, and first-line treatment will be registered. In addition, for breast, prostate, and bowel cancer, additional data on treatments and on pre-existing and existing comorbidities will be reported as well.
